The aging phenomenon is a common problem in different industries like (air, sea, land and railway) transportations, building, sea and air ports, etc.. The Iranian industry is not an exception. For example, the aging passenger aircraft is one of those which have claimed the lives of many Iranians over the past decade.

Since the aging phenomenon in different fields is badly hurting the Iranian lives and economy, Sharif University of Technology has decided with the help of scientific community both inside and outside of Iran to direct some of its resources to the basic research in damage detection, life prediction and life extension of aero structures, turbo machinery and other civil related industries. In this regard, the first national conference on structural integrity of Iranian aircraft and other industries has been organized to highlight the threat and bring it to the attention of the prominent researchers and the government officials. It is also aimed to mobilize the scientific potentials and resources of the country to save the lives by increasing the level of safety and optimize the usage of these national assets by mitigating the aged and damaged mechanical structures, systems and parts.
